This project aims to bring together research organizations and industries in the NPA region to innovation capacity in battery making by exploring different types of silicon-containing resources that are available locally. This aligns with the goals of the NPA and local initiatives to promote innovation and growth in the area.

Battery technology development is complicated and needs a lot of different skills and resources. By working together across borders, we can avoid duplicating efforts, missing out on important information, or wasting resources. This approach also helps us ensure our supply chains are strong, mitigating risks if there’s a shortage of materials.

In this preparatory project, we perform an initial screening of the different sources of silicon in the NPA region and evaluate if they could be used in battery manufacturing. The goal is to put together a detailed plan to apply for funding from the NPA 2021-2027 program.
