About the research

The purpose of the project is to design a system to improve the communication between patients and health care providers in the pre-operative phase of the surgery process. The project is based on new methods for surgery scheduling, recent guidelines for enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS), machine learning, and the use of an eHealth infrastructure. The project is a cooperation between Heilsugreind ehf., University of Iceland, and Landspitali (the National University Hospital) and is expected to create significant benefits for Landspitali and lead to the sale of software and intellectual property to a large healthcare software company.
