Variable stiffness Prosthetic Foot
Variable stiffness Prosthetic Foot
About the research
Energy returning feet and ankles are well established in the prosthetic industry. Össur Iceland is one of the world leader in the prosthetic feet industry. However numerous competitors have appeared for the last years and there is a need in novel technologies solving medical needs. Starting from a theoretical aspect will help designing those devices in the future. Changing the stiffness of the ankle has been perceived as the “Holy Grail” of prosthetic feet design. Some new bionic devices have been developed to improve amputee gait but not addressing the need of simply and quickly adapting the stiffness of the ankle. A passive mechanical design adapting to user preference and activity will be a novel feature.
